The card is like a key to the city gaining discounts on entrance and transport. You can buy just 24 hours, as well as longer versions so it can work for cruisers. This is what they claim…..’The Copenhagen Card is the most convenient and affordable way to experience Copenhagen. Visit world-class museums, take a cruise along the charming canals and explore the beautiful castles in and outside of Copenhagen. All for free with a Copenhagen Card.‘ The word free worries us, but expect some things free and some discounts. Lets try and unwind what they are offering.
So first and foremost it is a transport card so giving unlimited travel on trains, busses, metro and harbour busses throughout the entire capital region. Though most of Copenhagen is walkable. This does not mean the hop on and off type bus tour companies.
Secondly, they suggest it is an affordable way to visit all the major attractions, suggesting free entrance. That does not mean unlimited rides at Tivoli, it means entrance. It certainly acts as a discount card. Researching it does help you get knowledge of the city.
We are using their words which says ‘Copenhagen Card is your all-inclusive city pass where you get free admission to museums and attractions and free public transportation. Show the valid card at the entrance or ticket office of any attraction. They will scan your card and give you entrance at no further costs. Show your valid card to the transportation authority upon request when using public transportation’.
Age wise who needs a card and how does it work? Children aged 0-9 can go free when accompanying an adult with a Copenhagen Card. Children aged 10-15 need a child’s card. Book on line, print your voucher, and when in Copenhagen redeem your cards at one of the three centrally located redemption centres in Copenhagen (Tivoli, Copenhagen Info Central Station, Copenhagen Visitor centre Vesterbrogade 4B, 1620 København V). You then write the date and start time on it to validate it and start using it. Show your card at each attraction and upon request by the transport authorities.
It appears to work at many places including the Carlsberg brewery offering a free pint, so with free transport and discount on attractions, it has a value. They do say – ‘With a Copenhagen Card, there is no limit to how many different attractions you can visit in one day. You’re welcome to use your card for entry at as many attractions as you can possibly fit into your day. The Copenhagen Card entitles the holder to one visit per attractions despite card type. Re-visit is not possible’.
